Poppy

Bichon Frisé · Female · Adult · 5 years

Poppy would love to live in a peaceful area with quiet walking routes, plenty of grassy trails, woodland paths or beach adventures to explore. She is searching for a multi person, adult only household, although sensible older teenagers could be considered, where someone is usually around for most of the day, as she doesn't enjoy being left for long. Poppy would be happiest sharing her home with another calm dog, whose reassuring company helps her feel much more relaxed when left alone, and she could potentially live with a cat as she does now. She'll need a very secure garden, not only for her own safety but also to help her gradually meet visitors through a carefully managed introduction plan. While she settles, she'd prefer life to stay fairly quiet with only occasional visitors, building up to seeing the same familiar faces over time. Poppy is a sweet 5 year old Bichon Frise looking to find her best friend. Although new people can seem a little scary at first, Poppy is a wonderfully affectionate little dog once you've earned her trust. She adores curling up for cuddles, happily claiming a lap for an afternoon snooze, and she's wonderfully food motivated, with a particular weakness for meaty and smelly treats. Soft, crinkly toys and puzzle feeders are among her favourite ways to relax, while long countryside strolls filled with sniffing opportunities are guaranteed to put a wag in her tail.

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a adult bichon frisé dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
