Cove

Belgian Malinois · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Cove will need a home in a rural area with a secure garden where he can enjoy peaceful surroundings away from busy roads and heavy traffic. He'll need patient owners who are around for most of the day initially, allowing him to gradually build up any alone time, or a reliable support network would be great to help with this transition. As he's still a puppy, he'll need continued toilet training, gentle exposure with car travel and plenty of positive experiences to build his confidence. Cove can live with sensible secondary school aged children and, while he's currently happiest with only occasional visitors, his confidence is already growing and this is something that can continue to improve over time. As he matures, he'll develop into an active dog who'll love several hours of exercise and adventure each day. Cove is a five month old German Shepherd x Malinois with a bright future ahead of him! Once he feels calm and safe, he'll happily show affection and lean into you for a fuss, and he forms trusting bonds with his people. Food and toys are definitely the way to Cove's heart and this makes him highly motivated for reward based training. He's wonderfully clever, swaps toys nicely and loves interactive games that keep both his mind and body busy. Although he can be startled by unfamiliar situations and is still learning that the world isn't such a scary place, every positive experience helps his confidence blossom.

About Cove

What life with Cove looks like

Cove is a puppy/kitten belgian malinois dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cove, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cove?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cove on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cove if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cove already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cove isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cove and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
