Poppy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

January 2025 Beautiful Poppy turned 9 a few weeks ago, she’s a very healthy active girl who loves her long walks almost as much as she loves people and other dogs, she’s everyone’s best friend and thinks everyone is hers. Poppy has a great recall and is well behaved off lead, on lead she can be strong so wears a Canny head collar to stop this. She is a very loving cuddly girl and is happy to snooze on the sofa next to you, Poppy will bark when the post person arrives, or the doorbell goes and makes a beeline straight for the door, she can initially jump up at adults but then is happy to calm down and welcome visitors in and is soon cuddled up next to them, she has never jumped up at children. She will also bark with excitement when she spots squirrels either through the window or out on a walk, she is also a little too interested in cats so we think a home without cats would be best. Her current owners daughter quickly introduced her to clicker training and she was amazed how quickly Poppy picked that up, she is very eager to please and shows how much she loves learning new things. She has lived with children aged 5 years and up to teenagers and has always been amazing with them. After exercise Poppy can be left snoozing for 3-4 hours but she would prefer to be with you than left at home. She’s stayed in kennels while her family were away and she was a very good girl. Poppy is neutered, vaccinated and in good health, she is a great traveller, but does need a dog guard otherwise she would climb over from the back and end up sat on your lap even though she hasn’t done this in this home it’s something to be aware of. Poppy has been walked by a dog walker with other dogs and was a very well behaved. Poppy hasn’t met livestock that we are aware of so would need sensible introductions. If you feel you have the time and energy to keep up with this beautiful girl please contact us. Poppy is currently in the Gloucestershire area and will be rehomed with her 5 weeks free Agria Insurance. About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
