Poppy

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Estimated age: June 2025 Medical: vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, declawed, and spayed. Character: see description! House-trained: yes Origin: stray Docanr: 1830 Poppy was found just after giving birth to four beautiful kittens. She was an incredibly devoted mother to them. At first, Poppy was very independent and didn't leave her room with her babies. She allowed herself to be gently petted a bit and trusted people just enough to let them pet and handle her kittens. Poppy was most likely an outdoor cat, as at her foster home she had a hard time getting used to TVs and phones, while a vacuum cleaner and lawnmower didn't faze her at all. She has since made tremendous progress and now sleeps peacefully near the TV—preferably right by your side. This sweet lady is shy and finds strangers a bit intimidating, but with gentle words and a tasty snack, you'll quickly win Poppy's heart. She visibly and audibly enjoys purring when you stroke and scratch her. She drags plush toys around for you like prey, and string toys are also becoming more and more fun for her. Poppy’s kittens have actually taught her how much fun it is to play together. So she’s looking for a home with people who have patience. However, given how much progress she’s made, there’s even more kindness in her than she’s already showing. Once she’s won your trust, she’ll greet you every day with lots of little noises and a vibrating tail. There’s nothing better than coming home to her! Would you like to meet Poppy? Please indicate this via the form. We’ll then contact you to arrange an appointment. An introduction without an appointment is not possible. You don’t just choose a cat on a whim; that’s why we have a strict selection process for our shelter cats. During the initial meeting, a cat isn’t placed immediately. Furthermore, we’d like to get to know the entire family. At the shelter, you can take all the time you need to get acquainted and ask our staff any questions you may have. After a positive first meeting, a second appointment follows, and further arrangements will be made.

Geschatte leeftijd: juni 2025 Medisch: gevaccineerd, gechipt, ontwormd, ontvlooid en gesteriliseerd. Karakter: zie omschrijving!

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
