Adopt Potato

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Potato presents himself in shelter life as exceptionally friendly, polite, and very people-oriented male dog. The young American Staffordshire Terrier is in good general health, house-trained, and already has a solid basic obedience. In training, he shows cooperative and attentive behavior, but also shows fearfulness with sudden movements. With adequate and consistent handling, he walks beautifully on a loose leash. In dealing with environmental distractions, Potato is somewhat insecure and occasionally fearful. In stressful or unfamiliar situations, he actively seeks orientation from his primary caregiver and accepts clear, confident leadership gratefully. Interactions with fellow animals also go smoothly at our shelter and are largely driven by affection. Additionally, he possesses the positive trait of being able to stay alone at home problem-free for several hours. According to previous owners, there were conflicts in living together with an infant and messiness in the home. At the animal shelter, we experience Potato as a sensitive, but consistently friendly and housebroken dog. For the sensitive male dog, we are looking for people who can provide him with the necessary structure and security in daily life and guide him with clarity and sensitivity. Due to the described background, no infants should live in his new home; teenagers aged 13 and older are possible. Do you think you are the right person for Potato or would you like to get to know him better?

About Potato

What life with Potato looks like

Potato is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Potato, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Potato?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Potato on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Potato if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Potato already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Potato isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Potato and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
