Poti

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

The owner of Potis has passed away, and no one in the family wants to take care of the little leftover. How often I have had to write such a story, and it breaks my heart every time. The loss of a loved one is already bad enough for a ten-year-old charming guy like Poti (as of 06/2022), but then also ending up in an animal shelter or in a kennel - and how many dogs sit for weeks in a lonely apartment before someone finally takes an interest in their fate? No one knows when it's time to go, but at least you can spare the four-legged best friend a lot of suffering if you make provisions while you're still alive and ensure that there are people who take care that no one is left behind. Poti was lucky enough to get a place in a foster home directly from ArcoNatura, so he doesn't have to experience the world of bars, concrete floors, and lonely nights for now. In recent weeks, Poti has shown that he is still very fit, lovable, and easygoing for his age. Poti likes to lie in the dog bed or on the couch and watch his host family as they go about their daily lives. But when it comes to walks, he is awake and cheerful on the mat and enjoys exploring the neighborhood and surrounding fields and villages with his foster family. Poti is no longer a young dog, but he is very easygoing and knows all the things inside and around the house (and besides, he has such a cute underbite that he brings a smile to everyone's face even on the darkest days). Poti, a nice older gentleman with lots of experience and wisdom, is looking for a new circle of influence for the golden autumn of his life. A senior living community with other four-legged and active two-legged residents would be absolutely feasible, since our Poti gets along very well with other animals (although this does not apply to cats - Sofatiger does not find Poti sympathetic, and he says so). If you have a cozy dog bed with a view for our fit grandfather, we look forward to hearing from you soon!

About Poti

What life with Poti looks like

Poti is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
