Princess

Chihuahua · Female · Senior · 10 years

Princess is a gentle little senior lady who loves snuggles with the people she has built a bond with. The start of a friendship successfully begins with a ‘hands-off’ approach, letting Princess choose to come over to a seated person in her time. When Princess is ready, she will initiate a fuss. Princess enjoys her walkies in quiet locations; she is not a fan of the rain or busy areas. She plods along on her lead slowly and appreciates shorter walks. She is wary of other dogs, backs away and seeks comfort from her trusted humans. She is a Princess who adores her home comforts, cushions, pillows, beds – the more glam the better! She takes regular naps, likes to sunbathe, and enjoys soft treats. Princess knows a sit, paw, down, and her recall. Princess is a ten-year-old Chihuahua looking for a loving home with adults. She is looking to be the only pet in the home so she can soak up all the attention for herself. She is housetrained and she enjoys car travel. Princess will need a quiet home environment without too many visitors. She is nervous of strangers, and we have a successful meet and greet plan for her to make new human pals, her foster carer was once a stranger and now the foster carer and Princess are the best of friends! Her foster carer describes her as, “A girl who lives up to her name” and “Overall she is absolutely adorable.”

About Princess

What life with Princess looks like

Princess is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Princess, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Princess?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Princess on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Princess if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Princess already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Princess isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Princess and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
