Quill

10 Months Old | Entire | No Small Children | Pet Free Home Re-introducing QUILL! Quill is an 11 months old, Belgian Malinois and looking for his forever family. This little boy was caught in the system, scheduled to be euthanised, simply because he had overstayed his welcome at the Pound. We worked together with our colleagues in the rescue world to save his life. BUT that was just the start. He was a typical ‘Mali’ – as well as being very young, unsocialised, untrained and scared. There was a lot of work to do but we knew he was worth it. Quill initially spent time in our kennels while he was assessed and he responded very well. He is now in specialised foster, as this is the best option for getting him to a place where he can be re-homed. He has experienced consistency, patience, love and most of all, basic training and socialisation. He is a super dog, intelligent, willing to learn, super active of course. He has great potential – in the right home, with the right owners. Within a couple of weeks of being in a home Quill began to show his character – wanting to learn and be approved off, yes, but needing consistency and experienced handling and training. Because of his breed we believe he has needed extra input to give him an advantage of rehoming, especially as he is still quite an anxious boy. He is now: Fully house trained Crate trained Following basic obedience commands Not chewing anything that isn’t his toys Muzzle trained Doing amazing lead work Sitting down before crossing the road Desensitised to traffic Desensitised to a brush, nail clippers and nail grinder Not food reactive Knows when it is bed time and will take himself to his crate and settle until morning (mostly!) Willing to jump in and out of the bath – (still “sings” complainingly at having a bath!) Walking past people and other dogs on lead without reacting Able to be gradually introduced to new people and once he is confident around them will be calm and gentle – has totally accepted the regular members of the foster family Able to be gradually introduced to other dogs – he has got used to having the other resident dogs around, but will ‘grumble’ if they move too quickly While he sounds like the most obedient, re-homable dog we have ever had – this is a Mali and a nervous Mali at that. He will need an exceptional owner who is willing to to put in the time, attention and environment to complete Quill’s progress. We want a happy, confident, social, responsive adult dog in the next stage of his young life. Can you provide: Experience in this breed? Willingness to meet him at least twice before considering having him? On-going training? A pet free home OR one with a sensible, social older dog? A child-free home? The environment; time and energy to give time the physical and mental stimulation that he needs? He is currently located in the North East of England. If so, then please do a apply using the link below and will arrange meet and greets after successful home assessments. Privacy Policy

About Quill

What life with Quill looks like

Quill is a small puppy/kitten dog waiting at Team Poundie in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Quill, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Quill?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Team Poundie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Quill on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Quill if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Team Poundie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Quill already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Quill isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Team Poundie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Quill and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
