Adopt Ralfs

Male · Young · 2 years

A medium-sized, brown dog named Ralf was brought to the shelter from Jūrmala as a stray. The information provided stated: the owner no longer needed him, as he was already on his way abroad... We were surprised to learn that this two-year-old dog had already changed owners four times. There were only two possibilities: either the dog hadn't been fortunate enough to meet the right people at the beginning of his life and had ended up in the hands of careless humans, being passed around easily, or the dog had some serious behavioral issues. When after a couple of days we received police information that the dog would not be returned to the owner, as an investigation was underway regarding violations of animal welfare standards, we felt relieved: it was indeed the people's fault, not the dog. Moreover, Ralfs showed no bad behavior - he is simply young, active, impulsive, and undisciplined. We will not go into the story about why the dog came to the shelter and what happened to the owner, but we will add: the investigation revealed one lie after another, but no mistreatment of the dog was found, and the police decided to return the dog to its owner. And then the "circle dance" began again: one day he would go, the next he wouldn't. Until we convinced them: life can be very beautiful without a dog and without the serious long-term responsibility that comes with it, if it's so hard to make a decision... So now Ralfs is a full-fledged shelter dog and is starting his search for a home with owners who will never give him up (forgive us for this sentimental phrase). We are looking for an active family for Ralf, who wants the dog as a friend and companion, is ready to involve him in daily activities, go for walks, etc. If you also take him to dog school to learn basic obedience, your home will have a fine and smart dog. Ralfs is not suitable only for outdoor living - he can live both in an apartment and a private house.

About Ralfs

What life with Ralfs looks like

Ralfs is a young adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ralfs, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ralfs?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ralfs on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ralfs if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ralfs already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ralfs isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ralfs and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
