Rambo

Mixed Breed · Female

Rambo came to our animal shelter together with his brother "Ranger" as part of an official seizure. He was born in 2021. As a genuine shepherd dog mix, Rambo has the typical characteristics of this breed (and its mixes): he is eager to work, intelligent, and cooperative. Rambo wants to please and enjoys working with people. He usually solves new tasks effortlessly, motivated and with great commitment – sometimes even a bit overly ambitious, so that in such moments he needs guidance and co-regulation. In certain situations, it is still difficult for him to calm down. However, it becomes clear that he responds well to human support. The contact with calm and confident dogs can also help him to be more independent and to process new impressions more calmly. Rambo is initially reserved towards strangers outside his familiar environment, but not fearful. It can happen that he steps back when approached by unfamiliar people. After a short observation, however, he usually gains trust on his own, allows himself to be touched, led on a leash, and the muzzle can also be removed without problems. With familiar people, Rambo shows his affectionate and cheerful side – he loves being the center of attention, is as happy as a little cookie over attention, and enjoys long cuddles. He works well and is very eager to learn, sensitive, and attentive. He walks well on a leash, is significantly more stable in temperament compared to his brother, and mostly remains calm when encountering environmental stimuli. Walks, seminars, or social walks he masters with ease. Despite his strong desire to work, we do not see him in dog sports or at the dog training ground, as he tends to become overly tense in performance-oriented contexts. However, a moderate activity with a quiet structure could be possible, for example through light obedience work or tracking – of course in line with his individual stress profile. Rambo generally gets along well with other dogs, but prefers female dog. With males, it depends on the sympathy. No notable issues in resource behavior have been observed so far. We are looking for active, motivated, and reliable people with dog experience who are willing and able to go new ways together with him – and place value on a healthy balance between activities and rest periods. Children in the household are not a disqualifying factor, but should already be somewhat older and have a secure, respectful way of handling dogs. A home with few or no stairs would be ideal, as shepherd-type dogs are typically prone to joint problems – although Rambo does not have any known health restrictions so far. Rambo is microchipped, vaccinated, and unneutered. DE·Show original

About Rambo

What life with Rambo looks like

Rambo is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel in Brandenburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rambo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rambo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rambo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rambo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rambo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rambo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rambo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
