Raymond

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Raymond is a 4-year-old French Bulldog male. He is very healthy, has all his vaccinations and a health certificate. He is also neutered. Raymond is a friendly and social dog. He loves meeting new people and gets along well with both adults and children. He is very curious about other animals and cats. The only issue is that he can be a bit nervous around other dogs, as he had an incident with a larger dog last September, but once he gets to know them, he is very playful and happy. He has lived with another dog for most of his life, but will do well alone as long as he gets attention from his humans. He loves playing with a ball, but hates giving it back. He will chase the ball with you until you are both out of breath. Raymond is a very affectionate dog. He loves to sleep in your arms or near you, he likes attention. He knows his name very well, but can pretend not to hear you at times when he is being stubborn. Raymond has a big appetite and loves food, but as long as you watch how much and how often you give him food and treats, his weight will stay stable. He is fed at 8pm every day and is now at a healthy weight. Raymond has his own bed that he loves. He would also like to sleep with humans. When he is left at home, he may whine for 5 minutes, but he quickly calms down. He may also whine if he is frustrated. If you have time, energy, love and, most importantly, lots of cuddles to give, then Raymond is waiting for you. However, both the animal welfare organization and Raymond's current owner feel it is very important to make it clear: This is a breed with a higher risk of developing health problems over the years! French Bulldogs like Raymond are at a high risk of several diseases, both internally and externally. We are talking about nose, throat, teeth, heart, hips, etc. This is a breed that is known for diseases and is quite difficult to insure. The best thing is to be cautious, as this will cover acute episodes, but it will not cover underlying diseases that are just waiting to flare up due to the breed. So before you think about how cute Raymond is, think about whether you have the finances. Do you have the money to help Raymond over the next few years if something should happen to his health? Can you afford expensive veterinary food because he gets allergies? Can you afford heart medication every month if he were to develop heart disease? Can you afford a 50,000 kr operation if Raymond's breathing becomes so bad that he can no longer go for walks or fall asleep? This is not to scare potential interested parties from signing up, but to be realistic. You can't get a dog breed you can't afford to give the best possible life in terms of their health. We all know we have enough love to give, but unfortunately, this does not cover all the needs of a breed like Raymond. A stable and good economy is required to ensure the best quality of life for him for the rest of his life. Euthanasia should not be an option unless veterinarians recommend it, and rehoming should not be necessary if you make a sensible choice from the start. Raymond does not need more owners, he needs someone who can give him the best life from now until the very end. If you are interested in Raymond or have any further questions, you can contact the dog group at the Tromsø Animal Welfare Organization.

About Raymond

What life with Raymond looks like

Raymond is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø in Tromsø.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Raymond, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Raymond?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Raymond on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Raymond if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Raymond already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Raymond isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø early rather than rehoming privately; they know Raymond and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
