The first years of her life were spent together with her friend Bobi with an older man. Initially, both lived on a chain, but later they were allowed to move freely on the property. It wasn't a perfect life, but they had a person who took care of them. When her owner passed away, Rea and Bobi were left behind. Although they were occasionally cared for, the loneliness was particularly hard on them. For some time, Rea has been living in a foster home and has discovered many things that are second nature to other dogs. She has adapted to her new life surprisingly quickly and shows herself to be a uncomplicated, pleasant companion. Rea is a very quiet female dog who likes to spend her time relaxing on the terrace. She knows the rules in the house, is clean, and behaves impeccably in everyday life. She masters car rides completely relaxed and observes her surroundings curiously. From the first moment, she is open and friendly with other dogs. She has known cats since her youth and meets them calmly and tolerant. She is not interested in free-ranging chickens. Especially noteworthy is her love for people. She enjoys every bit of attention, seeks the company of her trusted people, and loves to be stroked and cuddled. She also likes children very much. Walking has now brought her great joy. While she used to hide from the leash at first, she now looks forward to shared excursions and explores her surroundings at her own comfortable pace. 🐾 Special Preferences: • Very people-oriented and cuddly • Loves children • Quiet and balanced • Friendly with other dogs • Cat-friendly • Ignores chickens and other farm animals • Relaxes in car rides • Knows life in the house • Enjoys quiet walks • Loves being close and spending time with her people 💌 How you can help:. Gets along with other dogs.

About Rea

What life with Rea looks like

Rea is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hund sucht Hütte in Austria.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hund sucht Hütte handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hund sucht Hütte will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hund sucht Hütte early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
