Rekin

Mixed Breed · Male

Rekin - a characterful individualist who is making steady progress. Rekin arrived at the shelter relatively recently, so we are still getting to know him. He's a dog with a distinct personality who clearly communicates his boundaries. If he feels uncomfortable or someone invades his space too much, he can signal this. That's why we're looking for an informed caregiver who can read his signals and build a relationship based on trust. Rekin is stubborn, but at the same time very intelligent and learns quickly. He has made huge progress in terms of walks. Today, he allows himself to be leashed without any problems and willingly goes out for walks. Initially, when he forgot about the restriction that a leash provides, he reacted with frustration after it was tightened. Currently, he handles such situations much better and can calmly continue the walk. He still tries to decide on the direction of the march and reluctantly responds to changes in the route, but these are behaviors we're working on and which are gradually improving. At this point, Rekin should be the only dog in the house. This may be due to uncertainty and a lack of sense of security, so it requires further work and proper guidance. With each passing week, he is more willing to establish contact with people. He increasingly demands petting and closeness on his own, and during walks, he sometimes approaches people he meets, seeking contact. We already know that he feels good in the company of women, but his relationships with men have not yet been sufficiently explored. Rekin's greatest motivation is treats. He's a real glutton who can get very involved for a reward. Due to his enthusiasm, he takes treats quite greedily, so it's worth being careful when giving them from your hand. Rekin is making really big progress week by week. He's a demanding dog, but at the same time smart and willing to cooperate with an appropriately guided caregiver. We believe that in a patient and consistent home, he will have the chance to fully develop his potential and become a wonderful companion.

Rekin – charakterny indywidualista, który robi coraz większe postępy. Rekin trafił do schroniska stosunkowo niedawno, dlatego wciąż go poznajemy.

About Rekin

What life with Rekin looks like

Rekin is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Czekadełko in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rekin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rekin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Czekadełko handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rekin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rekin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Czekadełko will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rekin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rekin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Czekadełko early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rekin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
