Rex

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Rex (born 01/2025) is a young Beagle mix with a big heart for his people. He is extremely cuddly, seeks out closeness, and would love to follow his favorite person everywhere they go (he will even accompany you to the bathroom). Anyone looking for a clingy companion will get a little shadow on four paws with Rex. Rex gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He prefers to avoid conflict. A confident dog buddy for play and romping around would be a nice addition, but it is not a must. Regular play dates with other dogs should, however, continue to be part of his routine to support his social behavior. He would certainly also enjoy a garden where he can let off steam and go exploring. Rex is full of energy and curiosity. Like a little bouncing ball, he would most like to discover everything at once, but he still needs to learn to control his impulses and to wait patiently. This also applies to his "chase" tendencies. ;-) Basic commands, leash walking, and the everyday rules of living together are still largely new territory for him. He currently pulls hard on the leash, and staying alone is still difficult for him. His people are currently his most important anchor, so he first needs to learn to cope without their immediate presence. We are looking for patient people who can give Rex loving but consistent guidance and who enjoy working with him. Building frustration tolerance and learning to settle down are especially important. A fixed retreat and clear routines will help him take breaks and relax. Attending a good dog school is recommended so that Rex can learn the basics of dog life from the ground up and grow together with his people into a reliable team. People with experience with Beagles or other high-spirited dogs would be an advantage. Rex knows cats, but he likes to chase them (though he does them no harm, it is more playful). A home with cats is therefore only an option if safe coexistence and appropriate management can be ensured. He is rather picky when it comes to food. Rex is a lovable, people-oriented young dog who gives a lot of closeness but also brings a fair amount of stubbornness and training needs. He needs people who can channel his temperament in the right direction, set boundaries for him patiently, and support him in growing up step by step. Anyone willing to invest time and effort will get a cuddle partner who gives their loyalty in return. Rex is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be rehomed under a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Wearing a safety harness is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness (3-strap safety harness) can be purchased for only 25 €.

Rex (geb.

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
