Adopt Rex

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Sometimes it is hard to find words for all the suffering that fills the lives of many animals. That is also how it is for me. My everyday life is also marked by fear and uncertainty. I cannot tell you where my life began or what I have already endured. At the moment, I live day to day without any hope that my situation will change – my heart is full of fear and I long so much for peace and the feeling of security. My name is Rex. Until recently, I didn't even have a name. I was just a number. One of thousands of other dogs who all hope for their chance – many in vain. There are some dogs who are afraid, just like me. I could never learn to build trust with people, and one can see that I still fear when people enter my kennel. And yet, I mustered all my courage and allowed them to gently stroke my fur – it was a strange feeling because it was so new for me that someone would treat me with affection. Unfortunately, I could not truly enjoy it because I cannot yet overcome my fear, but that is something I would very much like. Alone and in a place like this large animal shelter, I will never be able to do that. I need people – very special people by my side who want to support me. People who will patiently train me on the leash and show me that it is worthwhile to allow love. How wonderful it would be if one day I could lie in a comfortable dog bed at a quiet place and doze off completely relaxed. To feel safe. I do not want to deceive you. It is still a long way to go. But if you are the right people for me, and you want to give me this chance, I could not express my happiness in words. Maybe you could also offer me a foster place, as a stepping stone into my new life? © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
