Ricardo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Ricardo is unfortunately a typical "Post-Pandemic-Dog" that people selfishly acquired to get out of the lockdown. When the pandemic was over, the little pup was brought to a rural property where he lived completely alone and isolated! It’s clear that he didn’t receive the attention and care he needed and deserved. When the property was sold, Ricardo was dropped off at the animal shelter. Characteristically, Ricardo is a super-friendly heart dog, a bit shy, but playful and friendly. It’s obvious that he didn’t have an easy life before, but he is very friendly to people, dogs, and cats. He loves being around his people but is a rather submissive dog. He’s a bit anxious at mealtime, but with patience and special bowls for particularly anxious eaters, it can be managed well. He needs his peace and quiet during meals without disturbances. Ricardo learned many everyday situations very quickly, especially with the help of treats. Currently, he is in a foster home as he receives leishmaniasis treatment; Ricardo is currently taking Allopurinol and Domperidone, and the intake is effective and should be continued (the treatment is cost-effective). Ricardo also runs well on a leash! At home, he is house-trained and goes outside to do his business. In the foster home, he discovered his first toys and loves to play with them! He has so much fun, almost like a puppy. Despite the noises in the city and turbulent environmental stimuli, he has slowly learned that all these noises simply belong. He doesn’t like motorcycles, but he’s making slow progress; he tries to run away from motorized two-wheelers but then only slowly crouches down on the ground, the vehicles are not to his liking. He always tries to do everything right, even if it’s hard for him. Ricardo is a brave little guy who wants to be finally recognized and loved as a full-fledged family member. Who would welcome the little, cute fur carrier, sincerely take him into their heart, and spoil him? 🍀 Information on Leishmaniasis Please note:. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Ricardo

What life with Ricardo looks like

Ricardo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricardo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricardo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricardo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricardo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricardo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricardo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricardo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
