Ricky &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Ricky is 9 years old (as of 08/2024) and is looking for a new family. This is now not an unusual start to a placement text, yet Ricky's story makes me sad, because the funny terrier mix is the perfect family dog. For the first seven years of his life, Ricky lived happily with his owner, but unfortunately, the owner forgot to ensure that someone would take care of his best friend in the worst case. Ricky's owner passed away - and the owner's family did not feel responsible for the remaining and sad four-legged friend. An older lady from the neighborhood took Ricky in, but since the playful terrier head required a lot of attention and the senior citizen already had many health problems, Ricky spent most of his time alone on the flat roof of the building - no contact with people, no contact with other dogs, and plenty of time to grieve for his lost best friend. Fortunately, the animal welfare workers of Arca Sevilla became aware of Ricky's fate and took the poor soul into their care. Initially, Ricky no longer understood the world. From the lonely rooftop to the crowded animal shelter, it's no surprise that he didn't even come out of his cage voluntarily for the first few days. However, soon the cheerful playmobile thawed, and it surprised no one that shortly after a young couple came who wanted to give Ricky a new home. Two years later, in early August 2024, the two young people stood again before the animal shelter - to return Ricky. The loyal and loving dog has to go back to the animal shelter because the couple had a child. Ricky, who was very happy about the family addition and would have certainly been a good friend to the child, was suddenly unnecessary and unwanted. Our friends in Seville want to spare Ricky as long as possible an stay in the cage, so the very fit and cheerful male dog moved in with a foster family. Ricky has really lost his trusted people often enough, it's time for him to find a home that promises him security for life. We are therefore looking for a cheerful and active family for the more than spry pensioner, who can give him a home where his willingness to learn, his love of play, and his curiosity can be met, and who wants to give him a wonderful retirement. Ricky knows life in the house and everything that goes with it. Car rides, vet visits, walking on a leash - Ricky is an old hand. If you have fallen in love with the funny and clever charmer, do not hesitate to contact us. Ricky can hardly wait to find out where his journey to happiness will lead and whose heart he will soon conquer with his flying ears.

About Ricky &#8211

What life with Ricky &#8211 looks like

Ricky &#8211 is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricky &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricky &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricky &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricky &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricky &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricky &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricky &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
