Rigodon

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Rigodon was sighted over several weeks in a suburban neighborhood, where he was searching for food. Rigodon is rather intelligent and found a spot where several dogs were kept and where there was always something to eat. However, the owners of the premises felt disturbed by Rigodon and threatened to kill him. Since the animal welfare association ADA Canals received a tip that Rigodon was roaming around there, they went in search of him and found him on a field. For Rigodon, no trapping was necessary; he came running willingly, allowed himself to be fitted with a collar, and could be easily put into the car without any problems. The weeks on the street were not unnoticed: Rigodon was dirty and naturally also had ticks. The local police, who drove by with the animal welfare workers, found out that Rigodon was not microchipped, so they took him directly to the animal shelter. There, he was of course first bathed and freed from the ticks. In the meantime, Rigodon is living in a local guesthouse that works together with ADA Canals and is run by dog trainers. A lot of work has already been done with Rigodon, and it was found that he is a very eager and friendly dog. He gets along well with the local female dogs and is a real gentleman. He also gets along well with non-dominant male dogs, but if the competition is unneutered and dominant, Rigodon should keep his distance, as he does not get along well with these dogs. Cats are also not among his friends and should not be present in his new home. Rigodon has a high intelligence and should definitely be given the opportunity to continue working with his head and to further develop his intelligence. This makes him extremely happy, and he is also very talented. Rigodon loves water more than anything. Whether it's a dog pool he can use, or even better, a large lake, the porpoise wants to be allowed to do that with Rigodon someday.

DE·Show original

About Rigodon

What life with Rigodon looks like

Rigodon is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rigodon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rigodon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rigodon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rigodon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rigodon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rigodon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rigodon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
