Adopt Riley

British Shorthair · Male · Senior · 16 years

Hi! We know and still not! I was named Riley, but I've since taken on my nickname "Eule." It stems from the fact that when I first moved in, I was always wide-eyed: "WAAAS?!? ALLES was new, foreign, and exciting for me. It must be that at 10 years old, suddenly everything changes! Spaying, vet visits, dental work, worming/flea treatment, pain medication... HELP!! I am the living proof that "street life" is absolutely not a cakewalk. I am marked by many, many altercations. I have a yellow-blue and a blue (blind) eye, so I am visually impaired. I have FIV (Feline AIDS), had many teeth extracted, and my fur was in no good condition. That has changed significantly. At first, I stood out a lot due to my street manners. For example, I almost finished the entire food bowl, eating everything I could get my paws on as quickly as possible. With some teeth missing and being older, I need a can opener to make my wet food small enough. I still love to eat a lot (every day food?? unbelievable), but now I'm more civilized. I am absolutely house-trained, it doesn't draw me outside, but I'm still in combat mode when I meet other cats... "Sorry"! Unfortunately, I can't retract my claws anymore, which can be a nuisance if I get stuck. But I manage with that. But what I also offer: I am the best end-of-day buddy you could wish for! I love cuddling, I enjoy fur grooming (you brush, I enjoy ;-)), I like being stroked, I like to talk and chat with you a lot, even if you don't understand my answers right away (that will come!). I like to play and I love treats (please small and soft) and if you let me: lying on your lap and watching TV... haach! If you need an Eule, come and visit me at the foster home. If you have cat experience and like feisty felines, apply, I'm very looking forward to you!

Hi!

About Riley

What life with Riley looks like

Riley is a small senior british shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
