Riley

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

October 2024 Riley is a sweet, lovely natured 5 year old lad who’s recently very sadly lost his dad who was his best friend and companion and although Riley is much loved within the family, with full time working commitments, children, lack of outdoor space and other dogs, no one can take this lovely energetic lad on so they have asked for our help. After a lovely long walk and a play in his very large garden Riley could always be found curled up fast asleep on his dad’s knees. The family say that he’s a calm friendly lad and very well behaved in the home and that Riley loves his beach walks and would regularly disappear for 15 minutes then reappear from a completely different direction. He has a good recall at shorter distances and comes straight back and sits, but if he gets a scent he’s off trying to find where it’s from. Riley has been walked by a dog walker, the family say that he’s happy to go for a walk with anyone who will take him. He can be strong on the lead because his owner very rarely lead walked him, but he’s a clever lad so could learn this skill quite quickly. Around other dogs he’s playful and very good, happily mixing with several other family dogs at Christmas time/birthdays etc. He also mixes well with other dogs outdoors/on/off lead. He hasn’t lived with a cat and they think that he would chase if he saw one in his garden. Around children he has always been very sociable mixing with a variety of family children of all ages from 10 years upwards. Around livestock he has very little sense and has lost several teeth after an incident when he got too close to one of the families horses and got a kick to the face. Riley is a good traveller and enjoys his regular beach trips, he has stayed in boarding kennels and was very well behaved. He can be left at home for 4/5 hours after exercise and will snooze until you return. He is healthy, neutered and the family have just made sure that his vaccinations are all up to date. This was Riley’s second home because his dad bought him after seeing him with the traveling community when he was around two years of age and completely changed his life. If you feel that you can offer this loving, loyal companion the exercise and company that he loves please contact us. Riley is currently in the Lincolnshire area and will be rehomed with his 5 weeks free Agria insurance and his Adoption Contract, his microchip will be updated on his Adoption Day. About Riley

What life with Riley looks like

Riley is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
