Riley

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 8 months

Riley, born in February 2026, is currently about 45 cm tall and lives with his siblings Romy and Rio at the shelter. Of the three siblings, Riley is the most curious. He likes to keep an eye on everything and wants to know exactly what everyone is doing. He shows himself to be surprisingly balanced and unagitated. He observes attentively without being hectic or intrusive, and approaches new situations with a healthy dose of curiosity. Riley is a sweet and friendly guy who just wants to discover the world. At just over six months old, Riley is still a puppy who is slowly growing into his teenage years. Puberty is already on the horizon and will certainly bring some surprises. As with children, boundaries will be tested, new things will be discovered, and some of what has been learned will seem to be forgotten. With patience, understanding, and loving consistency, this exciting development phase can be mastered together. So far, Riley only knows life at the shelter. Living in a household, everyday noises like TV, vacuum cleaner or ringing telephones are still unknown to him. He will have to learn all these things step by step. As a young dog, he also needs many rest phases, social contacts and a secure orientation through his humans. Attending a puppy or later a young dog school would be a great opportunity for Riley to learn and gain positive experiences. Of course, Riley cannot be left alone yet. This must be slowly, patiently and in small steps after a suitable acclimatization period. Whoever is willing to show Riley the world at his own pace and lovingly accompanies him through all the new impressions will be rewarded with a wonderful companion. Riley brings the best prerequisites to develop into a loyal, friendly and lively family dog. Riley is waiting for people who will show him how beautiful a dog's life can be. People with time, patience and understanding for a young dog who still needs to discover the big wide world. Without pressure, but with a lot of love and security, Riley can arrive, learn and grow at his own pace. Whoever gives him this chance will be rewarded with a charming young dog who will give his heart to his family. Riley is vaccinated, microchipped and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Due to his age, Riley is not yet neutered. General note on our protégés: Our dogs in Romania are regularly visited so that we can always re-evaluate their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us very much to convey a possible good picture of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment - with new people, new routines and new impressions - can also show himself differently. This is quite normal and is part of every change process. Many dogs open up faster at home and show sides that were not visible in the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but are not a guarantee for every behavior in the new environment. They are intended to provide orientation and show how the dog presents himself in the shelter - and what potential he has. We are convinced: with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and develop positively.

About Riley

What life with Riley looks like

Riley is a large puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Riley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
