Rio &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Rio now lives in 73105 Dürnau. All the best, Rio. Heartfelt thanks, Mrs. G. The little Rio is on the lookout for a home – and one that he can call his own for the rest of his life. Rio is an approximately 4-year-old (as of 01/26), neutered male dog, and as one can easily see, he has a large part Pinscher in his gene pool. With his 5 kg weight and a shoulder height of 37 cm, he is a compact, manageable companion who fits into any car and only takes up a little space for his dog bed. Rio has, especially given his breed, an extraordinary character. At first, Rio shows a quiet and reserved demeanor, but soon reveals his friendly and balanced nature. He is a dog who easily adapts to new situations and has also integrated well into the small setup of Dolmen Animal, where he currently lives. He gets along well with other dogs from the start and shows no dominance behavior. His interaction with children is also positive – Rio is friendly and patient. Rio is microchipped and neutered. His vaccinations will be updated before travel arrangements, and of course, the common tests for Mediterranean diseases will be conducted, but Rio shows himself to be poodle… ah, pincher-healthy and gives no reason for concern. Rio’s previous journey has unfortunately been marked by a lot of instability and unfaithfulness. Rio has already met two families, but he found neither love nor enough value as a family member in either. His first owner family disposed of him when a baby was on the way, and he never got the chance to be a great big brother. The second family brought him back to the animal shelter after a short time because they couldn’t adapt to his nature (whatever that means). For us, Rio is an absolute treasure: he loves car rides, is cheerful, and very people-oriented. He has quickly adapted to life in the shelter and shows himself as a loving, obedient, and uncomplicated dog. He seeks the company of people and enjoys every bit of attention. Rio is ready for a new beginning and eagerly awaits someone who will take him in and give him a loving home. If you are looking for a loyal, uncomplicated, and friendly companion who craves security and affection, then Rio is exactly the right dog for you. Of course, a clever pincher also wants to be challenged and supported. So, if you have time, patience, and above all, a lot of love for our clever gentleman, we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Rio lebt jetzt in 73105 Dürnau. Alles Gute, Rio.

About Rio &#8211

What life with Rio &#8211 looks like

Rio &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rio &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rio &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rio &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rio &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rio &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rio &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rio &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
