adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Rio has found a home! His story: Could Rio bring you a great deal of happiness? Seven charming puppies capture our hearts in the blink of an eye! Rio, Pico, Chap, and Arielle, Amabella, Sarbi, and Jonna: Seven siblings, who wish nothing more than to spread their charm in a family of their own. The little puppies are on the lookout for their home – because they haven't arrived there yet. Currently, the approximately 3-month-old puppies live in the outdoor pen of our shelterer Stefan in Bistrita. There, they are safe from the dangers of the street, do not have to starve, and learn their first positive encounters with people. But that does not replace the feeling of being a family dog with all the wonderful effects: loved, emotionally cared for, and valued with the familiar two-legged being of their heart through life. In mid-February, it will be time: Rio could set off on the great journey to a new world – into the arms of their very own family. Rio is still a small puppy with a shoulder height of about 22 cm. When he grows up, he will be about medium-sized. He has a beautiful two-colored coat and wonderful light brown markings over his eyes. Rio loves playing with his siblings, is curious, and approaches people who cuddle with the puppy children and feed them with an open mind. Rio has kept his trusting side and is therefore an open puppy. Rio will still have a lot to learn when he moves in with you. Living under the same roof with humans has not been granted to him so far. So he still cannot handle indoor cleanliness or the noises within the house. Rio has never gone for a walk on a leash, has to learn to understand car rides, and must accept your visit. Puberty also waits for the little Rio, which may well ruffle a puppy's head a little. Has Rio already snuck into your heart? If you have the necessary patience and fun in training a puppy, then Rio has the best chances of being happy with you. Please contact us. Rio is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He will be rehomed for an adoption fee of 500 Euros and with a valid EU pet passport. We thank the godmother Frau Wittek for Rio's name, with which he received a valuable identity. As of: 22.01.

Stand: 22.01.2025

About Rio

What life with Rio looks like

Rio is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
