Rio and his brother Rufus were found and captured as part of a wild pack with several puppies and young dogs, as well as their mother, on the street. Hundeengel Gisela, who has set up a private animal shelter in Portugal and tirelessly rescues dogs, heard about this and brought Rio to her Quinta. Gisela and her Dreamteam organize vaccinations and neutering for the rescued dogs, as soon as they are old enough. The dogs are also partially cared for by volunteers, for example young people who have finished their Abi, and are familiarized with „normal life“. That means the dogs are familiar with the sound of the vacuum cleaner, have already been on a few car rides, or have visited a shopping center. Gisela's grandchildren also like to accompany the exploration trips, so the dogs are already familiar with toddlers and children. Rio is very friendly and affectionate, but by no means fearful. He already walks super on the leash, loves beach trips, and even new situations like encountering other dogs outside the Quinta, he meets with an open mind and usually with an invitation to play. Rio und sein Bruder Rufus wurden als Teil eines wilden Rudels mit mehreren Welpen und Junghunden sowie der Mama auf der Straße gefunden und eingefangen. So kam er in das städtische Tierheim. Hundeengel Gisela, die ein privates Tierheim in Portugal aufgebaut hat und unermüdlich Hunde rettet, hörte davon und holte Rio zu sich auf die Quinta. Gisela und ihr Dreamteam organisiert für die geretteten Hunde die Impfungen und Kastrationen, wenn es das Alter zulässt. Ebenso werden die Hunde teilweise von freiwilligen Helfern, zum Beispiel junge Leute die das Abi hinter sich haben, betreut und mit dem „normalen Leben“ vertraut gemacht. D. h. die Hunde kennen z.B. das Geräusch des Staubsaugers, haben auch schon einige Autofahrten hinter sich oder sind in einem Einkaufscenter gewesen. Gerne begleiten auch die Enkel von Gisela die Erkundungstrips, somit sind die Hunde auch bereits mit Kleinkindern und Kindern vertraut. Rio ist sehr freundlich und liebesbedürftig, aber keinesfalls ängstlich. An der Leine läuft er schon super, Strandausflüge liebt er und selbst neue Situationen wie Hundebegegnungen außerhalb der Quinta begegnet er aufgeschlossen und meist mit einer Spieleinladung.
