Rio (SWe)

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

PS FZ, born: 30.10.2025, male dog, UK. On the Finca since December 2025, Rio and his two siblings, Ronja and Raquel, did not have an easy start in life. Found alone in La Oliva, they were initially brought to the local Perrera. Since a Perrera is not an appropriate place for rearing puppies, the staff sought support. There was enough space on the Finca Zoe, allowing the three puppies to settle in and find their footing in peace. Upon his arrival, Rio was the weakest of the three, but has since physically and character-wise developed very well. He is the most cautious puppy in the trio and initially approaches new situations with hesitation. He prefers to observe unfamiliar people, new places, or objects from a distance and waits to see what his sisters experience during their exploration. When the little boy feels comfortable, he shows his cheerful, playful nature. Then he runs, plays, and cuddles, depending on what he can handle. Particularly typical of him is his great attachment: he likes to stay close to his reference figures and enjoys proximity very much. All three siblings are typically playful puppies, eager to explore their surroundings, and are eager to learn and people-oriented. Rio can be placed as either a single dog or a second dog. We wish for a home with joy in age-appropriate exercise and a visit to dog training to further develop his good approachability and bonding capacity. Additionally, we would ideally like his new home to be more rural and to have an enclosed yard/garden. Rio can travel to his new home microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for Mediterranean diseases from around the end of February 2026. Who would like to give the lively, active Rio a wonderful home? Contact us!

About Rio (SWe)

What life with Rio (SWe) looks like

Rio (SWe) is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rio (SWe), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rio (SWe)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rio (SWe) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rio (SWe) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rio (SWe) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rio (SWe) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rio (SWe) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
