Adopt Rischo

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Rischo came to us in July 2024 from his family, which was struggling with another baby. He was described to us as a loving and reserved dog. However, upon intake, it became clear that Rischo not only threatens but also knows how to assert himself. We have been working with the dog for almost a year and have made significant progress, but now we are looking for a new home for him. Rischo had obviously learned no boundaries in his previous home, and if something didn’t suit him, he would regulate it with growling and snapping, and was likely then beaten, as the hand was initially a red flag for him. Here at the animal shelter, everything operates according to strict structures and clear rules, and Rischo has settled in and understands that the two-leggeds allocate resources. He goes to his assigned place obediently, has learned to wear a muzzle to protect himself and others in uncomfortable situations (e.g., the vet), and is more attracted to women but also gets along well with our caretakers. A home is sought with dog-experienced people without children and other pets, where he can settle in, continue to be worked with, and live according to strict structures. It is important that the dog is visited multiple times so that everyone can get used to each other. Rischo can comfortably stay alone for a few hours, is house-trained, and does not destroy anything.

About Rischo

What life with Rischo looks like

Rischo is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Chemnitz in Chemnitz.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rischo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rischo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Chemnitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rischo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rischo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Chemnitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rischo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rischo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Chemnitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rischo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
