Robert

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Robert, a 3-5 year old cat, was left to fend for himself for a long time. As a stray, he wandered around, always searching for food and a safe place to stay. One day, he was found severely injured and had to be caught with a trap so that he could receive help. What was revealed was shocking: his hind leg was so badly injured that only amputation was possible. The injuries were most likely caused by a trap. Robert began a long period of treatment, recovery, and strict box rest. Fortunately, Robert has now recovered well. With his disability, he copes very well and lives in one of our cat rooms at the animal shelter. However, he is usually very reserved. He spends most of his time hidden and prefers to observe from a safe distance. But behind his cautious nature is a very soft core. Robert can be incredibly affectionate and clingy - when he trusts a person. How do we know this? He has developed a special relationship with one of our animal caretakers. As soon as she enters the room, Robert comes out of his hiding place, snuggles up to her, demands petting and enjoys every minute of the attention. In these moments, you can see what a loving cat really is in him. We are looking for patient people who give him the time he needs to gain trust. Once you have won his heart, you get a very special companion by your side. A spacious apartment with a secure balcony would be ideal for Robert. There he could arrive in peace, find safety and enjoy his new life. Who wants to show this brave cat that after all the hard years, the good times are finally beginning?

DE·Show original

About Robert

What life with Robert looks like

Robert is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierasyl Chemnitz in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Robert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Robert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierasyl Chemnitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Robert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Robert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierasyl Chemnitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Robert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Robert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierasyl Chemnitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Robert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
