Roberto

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Update: Roberto has been in Germany since the end of 02/2026, living in a loving foster home. Roberto was born in 2016, is approximately 57 cm tall, and is a male dog. In 2022 he was rescued from the shelter in Turceni. Already there, he was very anxious and easily startled. The long time in the shelter has shaped him, and even today he needs a lot of time to build trust. At the end of February 2026, Roberto arrived in Germany and is currently living in a foster home, where he is slowly getting to know life as a house dog.Roberto has already made progress in his development. He makes less use of his safe retreats and now spends most of his time on the sofa. There he is very cuddly and enjoys contact with his trusted people. He also shows good social behavior with the other dogs in the foster home, playing and romping with them. He enjoys a large garden very much.At the same time, Roberto remains a dog with special needs. Situations in which he feels pressured are difficult for him. Putting on a harness or collar is currently a major challenge. When he feels confined in such moments, he may, out of insecurity, move forward, bare his teeth, or snap. He therefore needs people who understand his body language and can give him a sense of security.Roberto needs a calm home with clear structures and fixed routines. Rules and boundaries help him find his bearings. When these are applied consistently and calmly, he can accept them well. There are some health particularities: Roberto had heartworm and needs sedation for certain veterinary appointments to keep the stress for him as low as possible. One eye is completely blind, and the other eye is also impaired (cloudy and not in optimal condition). As a result, he is more insecure when someone approaches him unexpectedly or from the side. For Roberto we are looking for an experienced home with people who give him the time he needs and do not expect quick progress. A confident female dog in the household would be desirable for him; he generally gets along with males but prefers females. He knows cats and chickens and poses no problem with them.Roberto is not a dog for beginners or a chaotic household. He needs patient, consistent people who are willing to keep working with him and give him a sense of security.Anyone who takes on Roberto gets a dog who, with a lot of patience, can build trust and already shows that he enjoys closeness and living together with people.Roberto is microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered, and will be placed through a protection contract with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. after a positive pre-screening.

About Roberto

What life with Roberto looks like

Roberto is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roberto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roberto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roberto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roberto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Roberto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roberto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roberto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
