Adopt Roberto (und Blanco)

Maltese · Male

Roberto and Blanco are two likely Romanian-born Maltese-Mix siblings, approximately 8 months old. The two unneutered puppies were originally imported by a family but had to be given up after repeated complaints about barking when left alone and escaping from the garden. The two little whirlwinds are exceptionally friendly and clingy with people—sometimes almost a bit overbearing. They already know children and are also well-tempered with other dogs. Typical for puppies, Roberto and Blanco bring a lot of energy, curiosity, and adventure. They are playful, lively, and still quite rambunctious. Finding peace and quiet is still a challenge for them. Additionally, the two still have a lot to learn: they are not fully house-trained, cannot be left alone yet, and do not know much about everyday life. Therefore, active people with time, patience, and joy in teaching a young puppy the basics of being a well-behaved dog are sought. Attending dog training classes would be highly desirable. It is also important that future owners are aware that raising, stimulating, and structuring life are work and consequences, especially with young, spirited puppies. Roberto and Blanco will not be rehomed together. Both are looking for their own home with people who are eager for a cheerful, little companion and want to grow with their dog. It is likely that both will remain relatively small and will not weigh more than 10 kg when fully grown. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Roberto (und Blanco)

What life with Roberto (und Blanco) looks like

Roberto (und Blanco) is a small adult maltese dog waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roberto (und Blanco), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roberto (und Blanco)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roberto (und Blanco) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roberto (und Blanco) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roberto (und Blanco) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roberto (und Blanco) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roberto (und Blanco) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
