Adopt Suzi

Maltese · Female · Senior · 10 years

One of a total of eight small dogs who came into the animal shelter in a really very unkempt condition after a seizure. Because our master hasn't been able to properly take care of us for a long time due to health reasons. Now freshly groomed and bathed, we can take on a new beginning! We are all very loving and friendly companions. Only our leash manners need some work. In our previous home, we were only allowed to run around in the garden, and we are simply not used to walking on a leash. Here, we need practice. At nearly 10 years old, I'm still in good shape and I'm happy to meet any person. However, I would much rather snuggle with my doggy friends. That's why I don't want to live without fellow animals. I would be overjoyed about a nice dog-only home because I have lived in a pack my whole life. Of course, I'm also happy if I can move out with one of my known doggy friends. Make an appointment and get to know me personally. I'm looking forward to you! Name: Suzi Number: H 106-26 Gender: Female Born: ca. 01.01.16 In the animal shelter since: 24.03. Gets along with other dogs.

About Suzi

What life with Suzi looks like

Suzi is a small senior maltese dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. in Wunstorf.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Suzi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Suzi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Suzi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Suzi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Suzi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Suzi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Suzi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
