Rocco

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 3 years

Support and Health How much training will I need? Needs some support Can I be left alone? Yes Rocco has been successfully left home alone for up to 4 hours. This longest time was after a good length walk and he slept for the duration of the time alone. He does best when he’s left with mental stimulation toys or after having physical exercise. Do I have any medical conditions? Existing conditions Rocco has current medical conditions, namely a luxating patellar, cherry eye and an issue with his skin, that will require consideration before this pet is rehomed. Our rehoming team will be able to give you further information if you apply to rehome them and you are a successful match. We would also advise that any medical conditions, be that historic or ongoing, are discussed with your own vet prior to taking them home. Due to the nature of the medical condition, a vet call with one of our onsite vets will be required before the pet goes home. Who I can live with Can I live with dogs? No Can I live with cats? No Can I live with small pets? Yes, conditionally - Securely house and kept separately. Additional information Rocco would love walking buddies that are comfortable with the breed and will not be worried by him greeting them. However he will need to be the only dog in the home because he doesn’t like to share. Family and environment What kind of family am I looking for? If Rocco was to live with children in his new home they would need to be aged 11 or older. He has shown good manners around children he has met, but as he was a stray we do not know if he has lived with them before. Rocco will need children to have respect for when he is sleeping and not disturb him, as he takes his rest very seriously. What type of environment would suit me? It isn’t essential that Rocco has a garden to himself, but he really enjoys snuffling for treats scattered in grass. Rocco also loves toys either a ball to chew or a game of tuggy, if you initiate it. About Rocco Rocco is a super handsome gentleman with a big silly attitude. He lights up every room with his wiggly and enthusiastic greetings. Rocco loves to soak up endless amounts of love from everyone he meets but is especially gentle and sweet with the people close to him. He is also partial to a belly rub and sticks his little tongue out when he is really relaxed! Things to note Breeds like this British Bulldog have extreme conformation, meaning that their body features are exaggerated. This can include having shorter legs or a flat face and shorter nose (brachycephalic). Why these features can be a problem? These characteristics can negatively affect their health and welfare. For example, dogs with shorter legs may be more likely to experience serious back issues and animals with flattened faces may find it difficult to breathe and struggle in the heat. Whilst not every dog will suffer these problems, it’s important to stop and think before adopting or buying one. Due to these health issues regularly affecting certain breeds, you may face higher insurance and veterinary costs even if your pet is unaffected. What to do before getting one If you’re thinking about welcoming this type of dog to your family, we recommend you do your homework to ensure you’re prepared. If you are rehoming from a charity like Woodgreen, our veterinary team always give all pets a health check and you will be told about any health problems we identify. Our expert team will be happy to talk to you if you have any questions about the care [Dog’s name] might need.

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Woodgreen Pets Charity in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Woodgreen Pets Charity handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Woodgreen Pets Charity will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Woodgreen Pets Charity early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
