Rocco

Mastiff · Male · 1 year

Some might be intimidated by the size of Rocco, but just take a good look and you'll see it's just a sweet little bear. We know nothing about its past, only that it was in the dog pound before coming to the animal shelter. Rocco is a one-year-old crossbreed of Mastiff, with an appetite for life that you can't even imagine. He's quite the little rascal, running from one side to the other and seeking us out for lots of cuddles, something that shows us every day how much he adores us; just look at that face of pure delight he makes. He's friendly with both people and other dogs. With people, there's no doubt he enjoys their company, coming to us and piling on us for kisses. He's a bit intense, liking to be the center of attention, which means he might not get along well with more dominant dogs, but a good introduction and adaptation will solve that. Currently, he cohabits with an older German Shepherd. Previously, he lived with a more reserved Mastiff, but it was this dog that helped him open up, encouraging him to approach us and see that we're trustworthy. He's a totally manipulable dog, letting us put the leash on him without a problem, touching... Just look at how he lies on his back, inviting us to do whatever we want. Despite his size and strength, he walks beautifully, doesn't pull, and is easily corrected.

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a large adult mastiff dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
