We’re looking for a responsible, consistent, and experienced person who understands the needs of working dogs and is ready for a demanding yet incredibly rewarding companion. Rocky has a strong temperament and tends to get easily excited, so he needs someone who can wisely channel his emotions and energy. He loves working alongside humans and is highly motivated by food and toys (tug toys), making him well-suited for further training and various activities. With someone he trusts, he can calm down—resting quietly in the presence of his handler in the socialization room or in his own kennel. When stressed, he seeks support from his handler, though his behavior may become intense at such times: circling, grabbing at sleeves, jumping up toward faces. He responds well when his emotions are redirected toward toys (e.g., a tug toy or a plush animal); sometimes he needs several attempts before he can come down from a state of high arousal. Rocky can be fearful of environmental stimuli. He avoids street traffic, may stop suddenly, or even try to turn his handler around. He reacts strongly to loud noises and sensory overload, easily becoming “amped up.” For this reason, he needs a calm, predictable environment and a handler who will introduce him to urban situations gradually and with sensitivity. Rocky is not a dog for just anyone. He requires careful introduction and maintaining an appropriate distance from strangers, especially at the beginning of any interaction. In encounters with other dogs, he reacts negatively (he has trouble passing other dogs), so he needs a handler who can safely guide him in public spaces and work on his responses to stimuli. For Rocky, we’re seeking a very specific kind of home: — Someone with experience working with Belgian Shepherds, sporting dogs, or dogs with high temperaments — A handler who is consistent, emotionally stable, and aware of the risks involved in handling such a demanding dog — A home without children and ideally without other pets — Individuals willing to commit to regular training sessions (preferably with the support of an experienced trainer specializing in working or sporting dogs) — A quiet neighborhood where he can be gradually and carefully exposed to new stimuli Before adoption, several introductory meetings with the potential guardian will be necessary, along with a calm and deliberate building of the relationship.
