Rocky &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Rocky is seven years old and a handsome, intelligent Weimaraner-male dog. For most of his life, he spent his time on a balcony. Now one wonders how something like this could happen, and the answer is: "101 Dalmatians." Time and again, certain films, series, fashion trends, and the like lead working breeds to be declared family dogs. Huskies, Dalmatians, Irish Setters, Border Collies, Australian Shepherds – all have already fallen victim to the status symbol seekers, and now it's happening to Weimaraners again. Rocky was purchased as a puppy by a family who intended to shine with their new dog. However, they seem to have forgotten that for a puppy to develop into a compliant, trusting team player, training, time, patience, and lots of love are required. Rocky, like any healthy young dog, demanded mental stimulation and affection, but instead, he was confined to the balcony. All day long, the energetic hunting dog waited for his people to return so he could run a few laps and be locked back out. After seven long years and many recommendations from neighbors and friends, Rocky's owners finally decided to give their dog the chance at an appropriate home and breed-savvy owners. In March 2024, Rocky moved from his 2m² balcony into ArcoNatura. Rocky is a bundle of energy, and it's clear that he has not been challenged or supported for many years, but he is loving, playful, gets along well with other dogs, and loves to follow the volunteers at the animal shelter to see what they do – and more importantly, to beg for cuddles and extra treats. Rocky needs people who understand that although he is an adult, he still has many things to explore and learn that are normal for other family dogs his age. Our Weimaraner boy is open to all exciting adventures, he is fit and eager to learn, and in the hands of hunting dog enthusiasts, he is a raw, unpolished diamond. Rocky hopes (with us) to finally experience what it's like to be loved not just for his appearance, to be part of a team where he can use his muscles and clever head, and not to wait 12 hours a day for nothing to happen that could make life worth living.

About Rocky &#8211

What life with Rocky &#8211 looks like

Rocky &#8211 is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
