Rocky &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Rocky is a mixed breed, but after Mother Nature mixed his gene pool, she forgot to shake or stir it. The end result is a wonderful dog who looks as if he were made from two different dogs—unique and at the same time handsome and playful. Rocky just celebrated his first birthday at the small animal shelter of our friends at Refugio El Buen Amigo (as of November 2025). The funny mustached guy looks pretty big in the photos, but he has a bit of a giant in his family, because Rocky weighs only 16kg and is knee-high—so he’s compact, handy, and easily transportable in any car, perfect for cuddling without being immobile with stiff legs and unable to move for hours pinned to the couch (owners of herding dogs know what I mean!). Rocky is a lovable, cheerful dog who is curious and open to all people. He also gets along well with his pen mate and is a much-loved playmate in the free run. The animal welfare workers report that he can be an exuberant bundle of energy, but he already responds well to being called and shows overall great learnability and as a true team player (which is really noteworthy in the middle of puberty). Rocky will be neutered before travel arrangements, he is vaccinated, and has a pristine white health certificate. He is looking for a loving, active family who wants to jump from one adventure to the next with him. Additionally, he is a fan of soft dog beds, cozy couch time, and yummy treats (but who isn’t?)

DE·Show original

About Rocky &#8211

What life with Rocky &#8211 looks like

Rocky &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
