Adopt Rocky

Male · Young · 3 years

Rocky's not in our shelter. He stays at the current owner's house only for mediation through our website for adoption. On this one, we want to offer Rocky, a Mechelen shepherd for relocation. Rocky is a three-year-old Mechelen shepherd dog. Rocky was adopted by us a few days ago but unfortunately the reality was different as the description of the dog offered for adoption. Rocky's a very sweet dog, likes to cuddle, and he follows commando. According to the previous owner, Rocky has been trained to become a police dog or military dog in the future, but the character of the dog is too soft, too sweet, too affectionate. Because the previous owner could no longer take care of the dog we adopted the dog. The dog has spent the last six months in an outhouse, and is certainly not as outlined was a real house dog. Rocky is a dog who likes a lot of movement, likes to walk a bit longer distances. He's super excited and soon becomes your best friend. According to the previous owner, Rocky could deal well with other animals and with children, but the dog is very enthusiastic and needs to be steered with a strong approach. The dog still has a lot of potential and can learn a lot with the right handling. Rocky's chipped, he's in good shape, he's had all the shots and he's in perfect health. Unfortunately, we have to conclude that because of personal circumstances we cannot offer Rocky what would be best for the dog. Are you interested in Rocky? Please fill out the contact form below, it will be sent directly to the owner and will contact you.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a young adult dog waiting at Hokazo in Uden.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hokazo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hokazo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hokazo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
