Rocky

Vizsla · Male · Adult · 6 years

Rocky is a gorgeous 6-year-old Vizsla with a wonderfully affectionate and playful personality. He loves being around people and was instantly friendly when meeting our team, happily coming over for fuss, treats and games. If there's a ball around, Rocky will happily keep himself entertained with a game of fetch, but he's just as content spending time cuddled up with his favourite people on the sofa. Food, toys, walks and affection are all high on Rocky's list of favourite things! He's comfortable with gentle handling, enjoys attention and travels well in the car, happily jumping into the boot and settling down for the journey. He's also used to spending some time alone and settles in his crate at home. Rocky is looking for a family who can give him the active lifestyle, companionship and reassurance he deserves. In return, you'll get a fun, loving and affectionate boy who's ready to become a brilliant part of the family. Rocky is looking for an active home where he can enjoy plenty of walks, playtime and quality time with his new family. He can be very enthusiastic when he's out exploring and is strong on the lead, so he'll need someone confident handling a larger, energetic dog who is happy to continue working on his loose lead walking. Rocky would ideally like to be the only pet in his new home. After a difficult experience with another dog a few years ago, he can feel unsure around dogs he doesn't know and prefers to keep his distance. He has previously enjoyed the company of other Vizslas, so there may be potential for him to live with a very well-matched Vizsla following successful introductions. Rocky currently lives with a baby and is also used to visits from pre-school aged children, with no concerns reported. Due to his size and strength, we feel he would be best suited to a home with primary school aged children who are comfortable and experienced around larger dogs.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a adult vizsla dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
