Roman

Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Roman is looking for a new home. He could be rehomed with a female from our shelter or to an existing female companion. In his new home, there should still be plenty of space to hop and hide. Unfortunately, Roman has occasionally had issues with his right hind leg, which are due to a bone change caused by a bacterial infection in the bone. Currently, he is symptom-free, but should be closely monitored. Pain therapy may be necessary at times. Additionally, Roman has developed some dental issues. Several of his cheek teeth had to be extracted. It is likely that the opposing teeth will need to be filed down by the vet at regular intervals initially. It is possible that this may not be necessary in the long term. Due to his dental issues, Roman has a likely permanent connection between his mouth and nose, which causes him to sneeze occasionally. Sometimes, his nose also needs cleaning. Currently, Roman is living in one of our indoor enclosures and can only be rehomed in an indoor setting at the moment. In his new home, there should already be a nice female rabbit in a large enclosure or rabbit room waiting for him.

About Roman

What life with Roman looks like

Roman is a large adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roman, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roman?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roman on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roman if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roman already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roman isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roman and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
