Romulous

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

🐾 Meet Romulus 💙 Romulus is a gorgeous one-year-old German Shepherd cross with a heart as big as his paws! This handsome boy is the definition of a big cuddly bear. He is affectionate, playful and full of personality, and once he gets to know you, he’ll happily be your shadow and your very best friend. Romulus is the kind of dog who wants to be involved in everything and, if he had his way, would probably spend his days bouncing around, playing and then climbing onto your lap for a cuddle! Romulus was born with elbow dysplasia, a genetic condition affecting his elbow joint. Importantly, Romulus himself has absolutely no idea he’s any different from any other big pup his age 💕 He is a happy, bouncy young dog 🥰 At present, his only treatment is a joint supplement, and his care team do not currently anticipate this causing significant issues for him in the future. His new family will simply need to understand his condition and be committed to giving him the appropriate care as he grows. Romulus is looking for a family who will appreciate that underneath all that youthful energy is a loving, loyal and incredibly affectionate boy who is going to make someone an amazing companion. He could potentially live with another friendly, settled dog following suitable introductions. We would also consider a home with children aged 8+ who are confident and used to living with large, bouncy dogs. Romulus will need a family who can continue to guide him, help him mature into the wonderful adult dog he is destined to become, and most importantly, give him all the love he deserves. Romulus is going to be someone’s absolute best friend. Could that someone be you? 🥹💙

About Romulous

What life with Romulous looks like

Romulous is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Romulous, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Romulous?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Romulous on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Romulous if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Romulous already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Romulous isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Romulous and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
