Adopt RONAN

German Shepherd · Male · 3 years

RONAN like his comic book namesake can initially inspire respect. However, unlike the dark character from the Marvel universe, our RONAN is a sunny and friendly dog who simply needs more time to trust someone. He arrived in Krakow from Radys, and among a group of fifteen dogs, he was the one considered "more difficult." No wonder - previous conditions, a long journey, and a stressful visit to the clinic caused him to react with strong resistance during direct contact. However, once he was placed in a calmer environment, he quickly began to calm down. He understood that no one wanted to harm him. Today, selected people greet him with a wagging tail, and at the command "walk," he reacts with a real explosion of joy. Despite his progress, RONAN still carries a trace of his difficult past. He sometimes suddenly stiffens or gives a warning growl - especially when something surprises him, for example, when he gets caught in a rope. He can also freeze while being petted, although it clearly gives him pleasure. He is only beginning to learn that a human hand can mean affection, and a walk does not end with being tied up again. We are looking for an experienced, patient home for him - without children and other animals - which will respect his boundaries and help him leave bad memories behind. This is not a dog "from the hand." It requires time and several introductory meetings, but it will repay the effort with a strong bond and loyalty.

Przyjechał do Krakowa z Radys i spośród grupy piętnastu psów to właśnie on został uznany za „trudniejszego”. Kontakt do wolontariusza: Arek 605 437 786

About RONAN

What life with RONAN looks like

RONAN is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, experienced owner due to traumatic past. Needs gradual introduction and respect for boundaries.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting RONAN, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RONAN?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RONAN on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RONAN if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RONAN already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RONAN isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know RONAN and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
