Ronnie

Beagle · Male · Adult · 7 years

Ronnie needs patient adopters who are willing to visit him for multiple meets at the centre and build a trusting relationship at his pace. He can find overly playful dogs and some strangers worrying, and although he has shown reactivity in the past, this is now intermittent and can be managed well with tasty treats! Our training team will be there to support and guide his new family. He would suit a home with quiet walking areas nearby and needs any time left alone to be introduced gradually. Ronnie has proven he can be housetrained, although the occasional accident should be expected while he settles in. This cheeky chappie has so much love to give and could be a wonderful companion for the right forever family. Ronnie is a lovely 7-year-old boy who may be shy when first meeting new people, but with a few tasty treats and some patience, he soon warms up. Once he knows you, Ronnie is a very affectionate companion who loves nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa. He enjoys exploring and using his nose on walks, before happily returning home for some well-earned downtime in his bed. Ronnie is looking for an adult-only home where he can be the only pet and soak up all the attention. He cannot live with children, cats, dogs or small furries. Ronnie can find the vets a little scary, and would need to be muzzled for any hands-on vet visits- our team have muzzle trained Ronnie so that he feels comfortable doing this.

About Ronnie

What life with Ronnie looks like

Ronnie is a small adult beagle dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Reactive towards dogs on walks, worried around strangers, needs muzzle training for vet visits, requires car-travel training

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ronnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ronnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ronnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ronnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ronnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ronnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ronnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
