adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal!Rookie has found his luck! His story: The start of life for our Rookie and his siblings Bobby, Roxy, Bounty, Roody, Jake, and Lykke did not go as beautifully as one could hope, when they were born under a bridge by our Salsa. Who can now give Rookie a loving home? Rookie is a black beauty with a white spot. Just like his mother, he was born with a shortened tail and therefore cannot travel to Switzerland. However, the shortened tail does not hold him back at all. On the contrary: with his long ears and short legs, he makes every heart skip a beat. He is still a puppy and very playful, and gets along well with his fellow animals and even knows cats. Otherwise, Rookie has not yet experienced much in his life. His new family should be aware that Rookie has not yet had the experience of life in a loving family. He still needs to learn the whole puppy ABC and puberty is still ahead of him. Here, he needs people who can approach him with much love and patience, and may even need to attend some positively working dog training classes with him and forgive him one or two mishaps. Leash walking, house training, and being left alone are still foreign words to him. During puberty, he will surely test boundaries and perhaps even forget some things he has learned. But once this phase is overcome, Jake will definitely become a great life partner. We hope so much that he can now experience the beautiful sides of life and learn that there are people who only want the best for him. Rookie is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport with him and can travel after a positive foster home for the sweet boy would make us very happy! Who will give him a loving forever home? Many thanks to Claudia D.! You gave Rookie his name. Status: 29.10.

Vielen Dank an Claudia D.! Du hast Rookie seinen Namen geschenkt. About Rookie

What life with Rookie looks like

Rookie is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rookie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rookie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rookie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rookie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rookie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rookie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rookie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
