Rosco

Lurcher · Male · Adult · 5 years

Meet Rosco, a handsome 5-year-old Lurcher cross with a heart as big as his paws. This lovable boy truly lives up to the phrase “gentle giant.” Rosco has shown us nothing but warmth, affection and a wonderfully “goofy but golden” nature. We’re certain his future is full of happiness, he just needs the right family to share it with.Rosco is a real people’s dog who greets everyone like an old friend. He’s full of enthusiasm for life and always ready for his next adventure, whether that’s a walk, a play session, or simply curling up for a cuddle. He has lovely manners overall and hasn’t shown any negative behaviours towards people, although he can get a little bouncy when he’s excited. This is something that can be gently guided with continued training.Rosco is tolerant and polite with other dogs. However, he would benefit from being the only dog in the home initially, giving him time to settle and build a strong bond with his new family. He has recently been in a foster home with a cat so could potentially live with a calm cat.Rosco is a clever boy who loves to learn, especially when treats are involved. He already knows commands such as “sit,” “down,” and “stay,” and takes treats very gently. He walks nicely on the lead and has shown promising recall, making him a great companion for outings. Like many young-at-heart dogs, he is still working on keeping all four paws on the floor when greeting people, but he is eager to please and responds well to guidance.Playtime is one of Rosco’s favourite things, especially chasing balls and enjoying his rubber toys. He may occasionally let out a bark to encourage more fun as he simply doesn’t want the game to end.Rosco is looking for a loving home where he can truly thrive:Family: Suitable for households with children aged 8+ who are confident around a large, lively dogGarden: A secure garden with 5ft fencing where he can stretch his legs safelySupport: A patient and understanding owner who can help him settle into home life and build confidence when left aloneIf you’re searching for a fun-loving, affectionate dog with a playful spirit and a heart full of love to give, Rosco could be your perfect match.

About Rosco

What life with Rosco looks like

Rosco is a extra-large adult lurcher dog waiting at RSPCA Cornwall Branch in Saint Columb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rosco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rosco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Cornwall Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rosco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rosco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Cornwall Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rosco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rosco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Cornwall Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rosco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
