Rose

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Name: Rose Breed: mixed-breed female dog Gender: female Date of birth: estimated 01.10.2024 Height at withers: estimated approximately 60 cm Weight: estimated approximately 25 kg Location: Refugio des Tierschutzvereins „Quinta Dos Cães“, Lagoa, Algarve, Portugal The puppy Rose was found alone and abandoned on the street and was brought by the police to the municipal animal shelter. Gisela, a "dog angel" who has established a private animal shelter in Portugal and tirelessly rescues dogs, heard about her and brought Rose to Quinta. Together with her dream team, Gisela arranges vaccinations and spaying/neutering for the rescued dogs, as age permits. Additionally, the dogs are partly cared for by volunteer helpers—such as young people who have just finished their Abitur—and introduced to "normal life." This means the dogs are already familiar with sounds like the vacuum cleaner, have experienced car rides, or have even visited shopping centers. Gisela's grandchildren also gladly join these exploration trips, so the dogs are already accustomed to toddlers and children. Rose also started with a car ride and initially expressed some doubt, whimpering quietly. But she soon began enjoying the drive and, upon arrival, gathered all her courage and jumped out of the trunk by herself. At first, she was still a bit shy when walking in unfamiliar surroundings and moved rather cautiously, but once the ice was broken, she noticeably warmed up and greeted everyone in a friendly manner. Would you like to offer this young lady—a calm, friendly, and relaxed dog—a permanent place in your heart and home? Please note that spaying/neutering must be completed in Germany if not already done. This is the most effective way to practice animal welfare! Would you like to give Rose a chance at a happy life? Rose’s adoption coordinator, Bettina Thoma, looks forward to your call, email, SMS, or WhatsApp message. Rose will travel to her new life microchipped, vaccinated (rabies and 5-in-1), dewormed, neutered/spayed (depending on departure date), and equipped with an EU pet passport.

About Rose

What life with Rose looks like

Rose is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde Europa e.V. in Simonswald.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rose, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rose?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rose on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rose if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rose already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rose isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rose and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
