Rosie

Chihuahua · Female · Senior · 12 years

Rosie is a sweet little lady who enjoys the quieter things in life. Once she has had time to get to know you, she becomes incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than curling up on a lap for a cuddle. She will happily waddle over to her favourite people, climb into their lap and ask for fuss, often rolling onto her back for belly rubs and gently pawing for more when the attention stops. Rosie enjoys exploring at her own pace, taking in the world with her nose, and can often be found pottering around calmly before settling down for a snooze in a cosy bed. She is a gentle soul who takes treats politely, enjoys soft, tasty snacks and has a lovely, calm nature once she feels safe and comfortable with those around her. Meet the golden Rosie, a sweet 12-year-old Chihuahua. She is looking for a patient and understanding home that can give her the time she needs to settle and build trust. She can be worried by unfamiliar people and handling initially, so her adopters should be prepared to let her approach interactions at her own pace and continue the positive confidence-building work she has started in our care. Rosie would suit adopters who appreciate a quieter companion. She could live with another calm dog and a cat, pending a scent swap. Rosie is suitable to live with older secondary children.

About Rosie

What life with Rosie looks like

Rosie is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rosie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rosie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rosie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rosie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rosie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rosie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rosie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
