Adopt Royal

Male · Young · 2 years

Royal is a very special Chow Chow who has come to us from a breeder in search of his forever home. When he first arrived, he was extremely frightened of the world around him and was very wary of being touched or handled. Thanks to gentle care and patience, Royal has made wonderful progress and is beginning to show his sweet, trusting side. Each day, Royal grows in confidence. He now greets his kennel mum with a happy tail wag and has recently taken a huge step forward and is now walking beautifully on lead! He also loves food, toys, and spending time outside, which all help him to relax and enjoy life a little more each day. He has made such wonderful progress that we would now consider homing him as an only dog in the right circumstances. If he was to be homed as an only dog his adopters would need to be around most of the time and have experience with nervous rescue dogs and Chow Chow experience would also be beneficial. He could also be homed with a kind confident female resident dog around his size who could be his friend and help his confidence grow further. He cannot be homed with cats. He has never lived in a home before, so his adopters will need to be kind and understanding as he settles in and learns all about home life as well as new skills like house training. Although Royal has blossomed, he is still a sensitive soul and it can take time for him to warm up to new people. For this reason, he will need a calm, quiet, adult-only home with adopters who have experience with nervous dogs. His new family will find it incredibly rewarding to watch him grow into the playful, loving companion we know he can be. Royal is a very special boy who, with time and understanding, has the potential to become a big, playful, and loving companion. Watching him learn to trust and enjoy life will be an incredibly rewarding experience for his forever family. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Royal

What life with Royal looks like

Royal is a extra-large young adult dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires female resident dog for confidence, never lived in home before, needs house training, extremely nervous with new people

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Royal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Royal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Royal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Royal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Royal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Royal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Royal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
