Rocco

Chow Chow Β· Unknown Β· Adult Β· 6 years

Rocco is looking for a new home with a secure garden and located in a quiet area where there are no other animals. It would be preferable if the new home has Chow experience and experience with dog training; Rocco is dog reactive and also needs to improve his lead walking and recall. His new home should be willing to train him. He would also prefer to have company most of the time as he has separation anxiety. Rocco loves people, he gets very excited when visitors come to the home and will bark. He may also bark at unfamiliar sounds. As mentioned, on walks, Rocco pulls on the lead and has bad recall. He does not like meeting other dogs and will bark at them. Rocco travels okay in the car and is fine to be picked up to be put in. He is fine to be bathed and brushed, he does go to a groomer but is nervous at times. He can also be nervous at the vet. He does not like loud bangs such as fireworks. Rocco is nervous of being touched on his backend and around the neck. He would be better suited to live with any children aged 10 and older. Rocco has been left for a few hours but seems to have separation anxiety as he will shake on your return. We are looking for a home that can give Rocco company most of the time. Rocco loves to have almost constant attention and to be near his people. He is a very loveable boy and would make a great companion for someone who has the time and experience to continue his training. Web Design by Technical Services Scotland. Need a website? About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is an adult chow chow dog waiting at Dog Aid Society of Scotland in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dog Aid Society of Scotland handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dog Aid Society of Scotland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dog Aid Society of Scotland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
