adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this cat! Zalau, Romania. Rubeus is a nearly one-year-old tomcat with active personality. He is curious, friendly, and like most cats his age, totally playful. He loves being stroked and enjoys being the center of attention. Unfortunately, the poor fellow didn't have a good start. He was found by one of our volunteers and we assume he was abandoned. At that time, he suffered from an Otitis, which was treated by the vet. He was then taken into our cat room for a few weeks, where he was discovered and adopted by a very well-off family. About two weeks later, they brought him back! The reason: his play with their furniture, which was worth thousands of dollars, and he scratched it. That was surely the biggest disappointment for the poor tomcat. Now, he's taking a new chance and hopes this time to win the big lottery. Would be a laugh if it didn't work out, where he is such a great tomcat. Rubeus gets along well with other cats and should therefore be rehomed only with another cat. If you still don't have a purring companion, Rubeus would surely bring one of his Romanian buddies along. Whether he gets along with dogs hasn't been tested yet. Rubeus has been kept as a house cat so far, with which he seems very content, and will therefore not be rehomed into the outdoors. For his travel arrangements, Rubeus, like all our cats and tomcats, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has already been tested negative for FIV and FeLV and an EU pet passport is packed into his travel bag.

About Rubeus

What life with Rubeus looks like

Rubeus is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rubeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rubeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rubeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rubeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rubeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rubeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rubeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
