Rubia

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Rubia has the delightful talent of making everyone fall in love with her! She has a lovely, sweet and gentle nature, perfect for a new family to take her home as soon as possible. Meantime, Rubia is in foster care in Cardiff, Wales, provided by Project Galgo . Rubia is a Galga and has a black coat with frosting. She is 9 years old (dob: 10/6/2017), weighs 25.5kg and is 67cm high. She is a real gem with such a lovely nature and is very good with other dogs and people. She can be left alone in the home for a couple of hours with another dog. Rubia likes lots of snuggles, soft toys, chicken and people. For some reason, she doesn't like trains and being disturbed by other dogs whilst in her bed. She has no specific needs as such, though she does not like male dogs in the home, and she doesn't like cats full stop. Rubia is neutered and is clear of any Mediterranean disease. She does have mild degenerative mitral valve disease. Currently, the disease is at stage B1. Scientific studies (ACVIM consensus) have not demonstrated that medical therapy increases the patient’s life expectancy at this stage. Therefore, Rubia does not currently require medical treatment. Due to the degenerative nature of the described disease, an echocardiographic follow-up is recommended in 8-10 months. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Have you got a cosy home for lovely Rubia? About Rubia

What life with Rubia looks like

Rubia is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rubia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rubia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rubia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rubia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rubia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rubia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rubia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
