adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Ruby has found her home! Her story: Ruby was found alone on the street. A local missing pet alert yielded no results, and Ruby was not microchipped. Therefore, we do not know if she already had a owner or had made it on her own. Currently, Ruby is at the shelter. For no dog is the shelter a nice place, but the smaller dogs are more affected by the noise. Therefore, we are looking for a family for Ruby as soon as possible. A foster home would also be a first step for Ruby towards a better future. The little dachshund is approximately 2.5 years old and weighs around 8 kg. She is friendly and open with people and gets along well with other dogs. A compatibility with cats has not yet been tested. As mentioned before, we do not know if Ruby has already experienced life in a home. However, we assume that she still has a lot to learn. Therefore, her future family should give her the time to learn what it means to lead a nice dog life in a home. And the wink when a little mishap happens. Ruby is still young, and dachshunds are typically brave, clever, and independent dogs. A visit to a positively working dog training class would be a great enrichment for Ruby and her family, and a wonderful chance to grow as a team and strengthen their bond. Ruby has packed her bags and is now waiting with her EU pet passport for her ticket to happiness. You could give her a wonderful home! Thank you for the wonderful name, dear Carina. Thanks to you, Ruby has an identity and the chance to have her own family. Status: 16.03. This animal is vaccinated.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 16.03.2026

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
